Reflection
When first taking English 202, my definition of technical writing was non-existent. Although I was enrolled in the class, I was not sure what to expect. As we jumped into the material, my perception of writing was greatly broadened. Although I have seen instruction sets, resumes, internet resource guides, and all the other projects given in the course throughout my everyday life, often times I forget that individuals had taken the time to create these works. As I work on my E-portfolio, I reviewed a great number of concepts that I had learned throughout the course and how I can display my projects at their best using these concepts. These concepts will help me benefit my future employer.
Throughout the course I used a number of writing techniques that I learned in order to display my projects to potential employers. Some things that I focused on was organization. You can see by the way that I have outlined my pages that I wanted a level of symmetry and balance. I made sure to maintain consistency by using the same font size and color for the title of each page and paragraph.
Another concept that I paid major attention to was my audience. The audience of my E-portfolio was possible employers looking to seek a greater understanding of my skills and works. Within my E-portfolio I developed a level of ethos by showing multiple aspects of my character through my diverse range of activities. I also made sure to balance out my range of diverse activities by showing my accomplishments in more relatable fields such as research.
These projects that I have placed in my E-Portofolio show a great deal about me. The projects show that I am a devoted student to my studies but am also highly interested in becoming involved as a member of the community. The projects exhibit different aspects of my character and display the level of passion I place into every aspect of my life. I tried to show I also choose to lead personal projects of my own and show initiative in my field.
As a physical therapist, I will need to use the skills I have to further my potential employers company. Some skills that I have learned through this course is how to effectively communicate ideas. Skills such as this will be useful to me in the workplace in developing documents that are expected from my job title. I will be expected in my position of the physical therapist to write memos that clearly define my purpose, discussion and so on. This class has given me the tools I need to communicate within my org.
In this course I learned a great deal of writing techniques and processes. My idea of technical writing evolved as I gained perspective on how technical writing is seen and used in everyday life. The projects that I have shown demonstrate my understanding of basics in technical writing but furthermore show the skills that I have acquired to benefit my future employer.
